I am an LMFT-A, practicing under the supervision of Katherine Chomick. I came to therapy from the world of secondary and higher education and continue to be a professional creative writer.
MFTs (Marriage & Family Therapists) are trained to view the individual as a part of many intertwining systems: your friends, family, extended family, neighborhood, job, school, culture, religion… on and on. It is your relationship to those systems that have influenced your life to be what it is, for better or for worse. In your work with me, we will explore how your choices affect, and are affected by, your systems, and together we will find ways to help you make different choices that will, in turn, change your systems. I am a well-trained and experienced ally to the LGBTQ+ community, world cultures/ethnicities, alt lifestyles, beliefs, and careers, and I see teens through elders.
I’m a relational specialist and also work with individuals. I utilize several models of therapy (CBT, Structural, Brief, Narrative, Trauma-Informed…), but I generally turn to mindfulness-based models and frameworks, such as ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy). Otherwise, my style is direct, engaging, and challenging, and sometimes with a bit of humor.
Be sure, always, to ask for what you need in your session. This is your time, so come with an idea of your needs and be sure to speak up if something isn’t comfortable for you.
